How to Save a Pinterest Video to Your iPhone Camera Roll

Pinterest lets you save a video pin to a board, but a board is not your phone. The video stays online, and it disappears if the creator deletes it. If you want a recipe clip, a workout or a tutorial on your iPhone for good — in the Photos app, next to your own videos — you need to download the MP4 file and move it to your camera roll.

This guide shows the quickest way to do it with Safari, the Chrome alternative, and what to do when the video ends up somewhere you didn't expect.

What you need

  • An iPhone or iPad on iOS / iPadOS 13 or newer (Safari can download files from then on).
  • The Pinterest app, or Pinterest open in your browser.
  • A free downloader such as GrabVid's Pinterest Video Downloader. No app or account is needed.

Step 1: Copy the video pin's link

  1. Open the Pinterest app and tap the video so it opens on its own screen.
  2. Tap the Share icon (the arrow under the pin).
  3. Choose Copy link. The link is now on your clipboard. It usually looks like https://pin.it/…, and that short form works fine.

Step 2: Download the MP4 in Safari

  1. Open Safari and go to grabvid.online.
  2. Tap Paste, then Download. GrabVid finds the original MP4 for that pin.
  3. Tap the red Download Video button.
  4. Safari asks whether you want to download the file. Tap Download.

A small blue arrow appears in Safari's address bar while the file downloads. Tap it to see the progress. Most Pinterest videos are a few megabytes, so this takes a second or two on Wi-Fi.

Step 3: Move the video from Files to Photos

This is the step most people miss. Safari does not save videos to your camera roll directly — it saves them to the Files app. To get the video into Photos:

  1. Open the Files app and go to Downloads. (It's under iCloud Drive or On My iPhone, depending on your settings.)
  2. Tap the video to open it.
  3. Tap the Share icon in the bottom-left corner.
  4. Choose Save Video.

The video now appears in the Photos app under Recents, like any video you recorded yourself. You can trim it, add it to an album or share it from there.

Shortcut: right after the download finishes, tap the blue arrow in Safari's address bar, tap the video in the list, and use Share → Save Video. You skip opening the Files app entirely.

Using Chrome on iPhone instead

Chrome for iOS can download files too, but it handles them a little differently. After you tap Download Video, Chrome shows a bar at the bottom of the screen. Tap Open in… and then Save Video to send it straight to Photos. If you dismiss that bar, the file is usually kept in the Files app under On My iPhone → Chrome.

Avoid the browsers built into other apps — the one that opens when you tap a link inside Instagram, Facebook or TikTok. Those in-app browsers often block downloads or open the video in a player with no save option. If that happens, copy the link and open it in Safari.

Video won't save? Quick fixes

ProblemFix
The video opens and plays instead of downloadingYou're probably in an in-app browser or an old iOS version. Use Safari on iOS 13 or newer. If it still plays, press and hold the video and choose Download Linked File if offered.
"Save Video" is missing from the Share menuScroll the Share sheet down — it's below the app icons. If it isn't there at all, the file may not be a video; check that you pasted a video pin, not a photo pin.
Photos says it can't save the videoCheck free storage in Settings → General → iPhone Storage. Also make sure Photos has permission: Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos.
The downloader shows an errorThe pin may be private, deleted, or a board link. See Pinterest video not downloading? Fixes that work.

Does the video keep its quality?

Yes. GrabVid downloads the same MP4 file Pinterest streams, usually in 720p, without re-compressing it. That's the main reason to download instead of screen recording: a screen recording captures the Pinterest interface, your notifications and a re-encoded copy of the video, while a download gives you the clean original file. We explain the difference in Can you download videos from Pinterest?

Saving many videos? Keep them organised

If you save a lot of recipe or workout videos, create an album in Photos for each topic as you go (Share → Add to Album). It takes two seconds per video and saves a lot of scrolling later. You can also delete the copy left in Files → Downloads once the video is in Photos to free up space — they're separate copies.

Respect the creator

Saving a video to watch offline is personal use. If you plan to repost it, use it in your own content, or share it outside a private chat, ask the creator first and credit them.

FAQ

Can I save Pinterest videos to my camera roll without an app?

Yes. Safari on iPhone can download the MP4 from a browser-based downloader, and the Files app's Share → Save Video option moves it into Photos. No app from the App Store is needed.

Why does my downloaded Pinterest video go to Files and not Photos?

Safari saves every download — PDFs, ZIPs and videos alike — to the Files app. Moving a video to Photos is a separate, one-tap step from the Share menu.

Does this work on iPad?

Yes, the steps are the same in Safari on iPadOS. The Downloads folder is in the Files app's sidebar.
