Can You Download Videos From Pinterest? Your Options Explained

Short answer: Pinterest itself doesn't let you download most videos to your device. You can save them to a board, and you can download many images, but video pins generally have no download option. To keep a copy of a video, you need either a screen recording or a downloader that fetches the original MP4 file.

Here's what each option really gives you, so you can pick the right one.

Option 1: Pinterest's "Save" button

The red Save button adds a pin to one of your boards. That's a bookmark, not a download:

  • The video still streams from Pinterest, so you need an internet connection to watch it.
  • If the creator deletes the pin, it can disappear from your board too.
  • You can't move it into your phone's gallery, edit it or open it in another app.

Saving to a board is great for collecting ideas. It's not a way to keep a video.

Option 2: Pinterest's "Download image" option

On many image pins, the three-dot menu (•••) includes Download image. That saves the picture to your phone or computer. On video pins, this option usually isn't there — and where an image download does appear on a video pin, it saves a still cover frame, not the video.

For photos, our Pinterest Image Downloader also gets you the full original resolution, which is often larger than what the app saves.

Option 3: Screen recording

Every modern phone can record its screen, and it does technically "save" a Pinterest video. But the result is a poor copy:

Screen recordingDownloading the MP4
QualityRe-encoded; loses sharpnessThe original file Pinterest streams, usually 720p
What's in the frameApp buttons, captions, notificationsJust the video
Start and endHas to be trimmed by handExactly the clip
TimeAs long as the video, plus trimmingA few seconds
AudioCan pick up phone sounds, or be mutedThe original audio track

Screen recording is fine as a last resort. For anything you want to keep or rewatch, downloading the file is better in every way.

Option 4: A Pinterest video downloader

A downloader takes the link to a pin, finds the MP4 file Pinterest already sends to your browser when you watch it, and gives you a direct download link. With GrabVid it works like this:

  1. On Pinterest, open the video and tap Share → Copy link.
  2. Paste the link into GrabVid and press Download.
  3. Tap Download Video to save the MP4.

It runs in the browser, so there's nothing to install, no account to create and no watermark added. It works on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac and Chromebook. If you're on iPhone, follow our guide to getting the video into your camera roll, since Safari saves downloads to the Files app first.

What to watch out for with downloader sites

Not every downloader is pleasant to use. Be wary of sites that:

  • Ask you to install an app, browser extension or "player" to finish the download.
  • Show several big fake "Download" buttons that are really ads.
  • Ask you to log in with your Pinterest account. A public pin never needs your password.
  • Add their own watermark to the video.

Which videos can be downloaded?

Any public video pin hosted on Pinterest: recipe clips, DIY tutorials, workouts, fashion try-ons, travel reels, and multi-page pins made of several clips (see how to download Idea Pins). What you can't download:

  • Pins on secret boards or deleted pins — they're not public any more.
  • Pins that link out to a video on YouTube or another site — the video isn't on Pinterest.
  • Board or profile pages — you need the link to one specific pin.

If a download fails, these fixes cover every common error.

Is it allowed?

Downloading a public video to watch offline for yourself — keeping a recipe for the kitchen, saving a workout for the gym — is the kind of personal use most people have in mind. Reposting someone else's video, using it in your own content or using it commercially is different: you need the creator's permission. When in doubt, ask, and always credit the creator. This isn't legal advice, and rules vary by country.

FAQ

Does Pinterest notify someone when you download their video?

No. Downloading through a browser tool doesn't interact with the creator's account, and GrabVid doesn't need you to log in to Pinterest at all.

Can you download Pinterest videos on a computer?

Yes. Copy the pin's URL from your browser's address bar, paste it into GrabVid and click Download. The MP4 goes to your Downloads folder.

Is downloading Pinterest videos free?

With GrabVid, yes — no limits, no sign-up and no watermark. The site is supported by ads.
