How to Download Pinterest Idea Pins and Multi-Page Pins
Idea Pins were Pinterest's swipeable, story-style pins: several video clips or images, often with text and music, in one pin. Pinterest later dropped the "Idea Pin" name and folded the format into regular pins, but the multi-page pins people made with it are still all over Pinterest — especially recipes, crafts, outfit ideas and step-by-step tutorials.
They're also the pins people most often want to keep, because they're full of instructions. Here's how to download them.
How multi-page pins are different
A normal video pin is one MP4 file. A multi-page pin is a set of pages, and each page can be:
- a short video clip,
- a still image, or
- an image with text drawn on top.
Pinterest stores each page as its own file, so there isn't always one video that contains everything. A good downloader finds all the pages and lets you save each one.
How to download an Idea Pin with GrabVid
- Open the pin in the Pinterest app or website. Make sure it's the pin itself, not the board it's on.

Why is the text missing from my download?
Some creators added text, stickers or music inside Pinterest's own editor. Depending on how the pin was made, those layers may be displayed by the Pinterest app on top of the video rather than baked into the file. When that happens, the downloaded clip is the clean footage without the overlay.
If you need the written steps too (a recipe's measurements, for example), check the pin's description and the creator's linked website, or take a quick screenshot of the text pages alongside your download.
Why does it download as several files?
Because the pin really is several files. A five-page tutorial might be three short clips and two images. Downloading each page keeps every part at its original quality. If you want them as one video, any basic editor can join them:
- iPhone: iMovie (free) — create a movie and add the clips in order.
- Android: Google Photos — select the clips, tap + → Movie, or use your phone's built-in video editor.
- Windows: Clipchamp, which comes with Windows 11.
- Mac: iMovie or QuickTime Player (Edit → Add Clip to End).
Carousel pins
Carousel pins — several images you swipe through, often used for product collections — work the same way. Paste the pin link and GrabVid shows each image in the carousel so you can save them individually in full resolution.
If the download fails
- Only one image appears: the pin may be a single image with a video-style cover, or the extra pages weren't published publicly.
- "Not a Pinterest pin" error: you copied a board or profile link. Open the pin itself first.
- "Deleted or private": the creator removed it or it's on a secret board.

Idea Pins are often a creator's most work-intensive content. Save them for your own use, and if you share them anywhere, credit the creator and link back to the original pin.

Do Idea Pins still exist on Pinterest?
The name was retired and the format was merged into standard pins, which can still have multiple pages. Existing Idea Pins remain on Pinterest as multi-page pins.
Can I download an Idea Pin as one video?
Only if the creator uploaded it as one video. Otherwise each page is a separate file, which you can join in a free editor such as iMovie or Google Photos.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes. Download each clip in Safari, then use Files → Share → Save Video to move them to Photos.
